BYXCO Meadow King 30" Grass Blade

After many years of work, we are delighted to finally bring new and improved American scythe blades to the market. While Seymour's blades are good enough and get the job done, we had always felt they could be better, and we've worked with the good folks at Schröckenfux in Austria--the very same factory in which the Seymour blades are produced--to take a step closer to representing American blades how Americans made them. While not all the way there yet, we can say confidently that these are some of the very finest American pattern scythe blades to ever come out of Austria. 

These blades feature a mathematically optimized curvature for what we consider the most effective stroke on common American snaths, allowing the user to mow with ease in a swath of just the right depth and width without getting bogged down. Their behavior in mowing is almost exactly the same as one of our favorite all-purpose vintage grass blades, and it sings through the grass. A 10° tang angle is preset at the factory, so most users will not need additional tang angulation, and this is the correct angle for users of any height when paired with one of our Longfellow snaths. A basic coarse grind is performed in-house and included as part of the basic price. 

If selecting the "Deluxe Grinding & Honing" option the edge will be given an extra pass on a finer grit belt for additional refinement. A light burr will still be present from grinding and polishing of the edge that will come off in the first few honing sessions during use.

If selecting the "Tang Width Reduction" option we will test-fit the tang to the hardware of the Seymour No.8 aluminum snaths and grind a little material off the outside edge of the tang to ensure that it can reach the center hole of the heel plate, as most of the tangs are just a touch too wide to reach the center hole. 

If selecting the "Tang Angle Adjusted" option we will heat and bend the tang by a custom degree for users who need more (or less!) than the factory 10°.
